ASSESSMENT

When administering assessments, particularly to individuals with disabilities, sensitivity, patience, and understanding is required in order that the results produce useful, valid information. Assessments are key in funding requests, programming, appreciating learning profiles, and reducing misdiagnosis. Moreover, accurate psycho-educational assessments are instrumental in understanding cognitive and functional abilities; thereby, enabling that expectations are appropriate and recommendations are relevant. At Individuals with Differences, information gathering is thorough and assessments are completed in a timely manner. When conducting assessments for children, for example, it is my standard practice to, not only test the child, but also to build rapport with the child, interview the parents, and, whenever possible, communicate with the child’s school; including doing on site observations if authorized.

Individuals with Differences offers the following assessment options:

  • Psycho-educational assessments

  • Preliminary screening and diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Disorder, including Asperger Syndrome, of individuals from 18 months to adults (NOTE: the term Asperger Syndrome has been removed from the Diagnostic Statistical Manual 5 although referenced as such in various psychology and psychiatric articles )

  • Assessment of Socio-emotional Disorders/Neurodevelopmental Disorders such as: Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder, Anxiety Disorders, Depressive Disorders
